We, as Peer Mediators, have been trained to help other children resolve conflict during lunchtime. Our training is to help children in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4. If there is any conflict for us to deal with we take the children involved into a quiet and calming environment.
Before we make any decision about the issue, we listen to both sides of the story; this is an important part of being a Peer Mediator.
We always talk calmly and listen carefully; we ask questions about what has happened and this helps us to decide what to do next. It is important that we let the children involved do most of the talking and try and come up with their own solutions. We are never too hard on them.
Our job helps to make our lunchtimes more enjoyable!
